GMU Information

A GMU- Braddock District Community Forum (GM-BDCF) has been formed with the communities around GMU to "provide a structure for discussion of issues, concerns, upcoming plans and for the resolution of challenges involving GMU and its neighboring communities."  Information on the forum can be found at the Braddock District site here:

GMU places development plans / projects in four categories (Priority 1, 2, 3, and future).  There are 5 projects identified in the University Master Plan with respect to the parcel in question.  They are:
 - Parking lot at the south portion adjacent to Braddock Road (Priority 1)
 - Facility Staff Housing (Priority 1)
 - Research Park - 2 Phases (Priority 3)
 - West Campus Retail (Priority 3)
The parking lot is the ONLY project currently approved and underway.

Status of the other projects:
 - Facility Staff Housing - GMU plans to build housing for professors and other staff personnel.  The objective is to provide reasonably priced housing for staff personnel joining the University from portions of the country with a lower cost of living.  According to Jim Miller, this project will not be executed on the parcel in question because a more favorable site has been identified on the east side of the University.
 - Research Park - The project is not approved or funded and, if ever approved, is not expected to proceed for many years.  The University had at one time considered a research park but has recently voiced a number of reservations in that regard.  There are no plans to proceed with this project at this time.
 - West Campus Retail - Very unlikely this project will proceed unless the parcel is developed at some future date.  This is a low priority project.
